GUEST DESIGNER

Please welcome one of our guest designer this week – Aj.  A little bit about Aj:

1.When did you start crafting and what made you start?  Gosh, I can’t recall a time when I haven’t. Aside from papercrafts I also do patchwork quilting, freestyle embroidery, hand spinning & knitting.
2.What’s your favourite colouring medium?  Now thats a hard answer to nail down with a firm reply! I love to use pencils if the image suits, but at the same time I equally love to use markers or to paint with distress inks. It all depends on the image and the surface im working on. If I had to pick just one it would have to be pencils, I love the weighty challenge to achieve that perfect seamless blend when merging colours or colour depths.
3. Where do you craft? In my new studio! This summer converted one of our outhouses which directly adjoins the house & knocked through a 4ft thick wall to put in a door direct from the dinning room, I now have 2 lower rooms, an upsairs gallery and storage area and a massive closet which used to be a bathroom, the outhouse was once, long ago, a small self contained flat.
4.What is your favourite MIC image/s?  Do I really have to answer that ? I love them all ! but I do have a very big soft spot for Elizabeth, all those creases and layers to collect and reflect your light source from, all that shadow and depth, she is simply enthralling to play with.
5.Do you have a favourite type/style of card that you like to make? Not really, I tend to let each image whisper to me about how it wants to be set & which style of project it wants to be worked into, I never used to be a big fan of cute n girlie but when you hang around the MIC facebook group for long enough things like Magnolia start to appeal to you because of the colouring options they can hold.

Here’s Aj’s fabulous card for this week’s challenge.

Please welcome our second guest designer this week – Colleen.  A little bit about Colleen:

1.When did you start crafting and what made you start?  I’ve always been crafty.  As a little girl, I made sequin dolls and painted ceramics.  As I grew older I took up drawing, coloring and painting.  I still dabble in other art forms, but I mainly color and create cards now because of the instant gratification I get and the chance to share my work with others.
2.What’s your favourite colouring medium?  Hands down – Copic Markers!!!  After picking them up 5 years ago, I’ve never put them down!
3. Where do you craft? Since I work full time in the creative arts industry, I needed a space to
really get comfortable and settle in.  I’m spoiled to have an amazing art studio in my basement.  It has everything I need to get my craft on!
4.What is your favourite MIC image/s?  That’s so hard!  I love love love the little houses… those were my very first purchase and I can’t help but color them over and over.  And the new little elves…  too stinkin’ cute!
5.Do you have a favourite type/style of card that you like to make? I like to focus on coloring, so my card making style is pretty simple.  I like clean cuts and layers… minimalistic, but still stylish.  And I can’t complete a project without doodling some sort of frame or faux-stitching.

Here’s Colleen’s fabulous card for this week’s challenge.

TIPS AND TRICKS

I found some great tutorials on Marianne Walker’s blog for adding texture to a sweater and coloring fur.  SweetNovemberStamps has a video tutorial on creating texture on jeans.  Kristy has a video tutorial on coloring fur,as well.  Paula has a nice video tutorial on coloring grass with Prisma pencils.
