Challenge #9 – Colour with Shine

MakeitColourful March 5, 2011 4

Howdy Colouring enthusiasts!

It was fabulous to see you take on the challenge of light source. We’ll have more of those coming up so I hope you had a chance to view the video I made with a couple of tips and will continue to practice! As per usual, we’ll be back Tuesday to announce the winners!

There are a couple of changes I want to let you know about.

Firstly: Since this is a COLOURING challenge, I wanted to let you know that we will accept ‘coloured images’ only. As long as YOU have coloured it, you can enter it. I know a few of you have been joining us each week but haven’t had a chance to actually make a card, but we want to see what you have been doing!! So please feel free to enter your COLOURED projects whether they be just a coloured image or the whole project.

Secondly: NEXT week we are introducing a challenge for the kiddies. A few of the ‘addicts’ here love to colour with their children and/or young family members so we decided it might be fun to involve the kiddies. It will be a simple challenge each month, but it gives you some time to have some crafty time with the kiddies and show off their talent. I am sure they will get a buzz out of seeing their creations on ‘Mummies/Daddies/Aunties/Uncles/Nannies/Grandaddies’ Blog! Hope I covered everyone there! haha

So without further ado I would like to introduce you to this week’s sponsor!

The lovely Elaine, owner of Quixotic Paperie

Quixotic Paperie was started in 2009 by Elaine Hughes and stocks a variety of crafty stash.  If Elaine loves it, you will probably find it in stock!

Stamping and colouring are Elaine’s favourite craft pastimes, and so you will find a large selection of rubber stamps from different companies including: SCACD Stamps (Elisabeth Bell, Victoria Case and Carmen Medlin), Whimsy Stamps, Paper Makeup Stamps, The Greeting Farm, Stempelglede and more!

I asked Elaine if she had a colouring tip to share
(Have you seen her colouring??? It is drop your mouth gorgeous!!)

Quick Click Here but don’t forget to come back!

Elaine offered the following tip:
“Don’t be scared to experiment!  Some of my best coloured artwork has been created when I let go and let myself play.”

I second that everyone!!

Oh the prize!!

Elaine has generously offered a £10 gift voucher to spend in
her store Quixotic Paperie to the lucky winner!

So what are we challenging you to this week?? hmmm

Make it Shiny!! Colour with Shine!!

You could colour shiny hair, clothing, metal, shoes…

BUT I don’t want to just see one part of your image shiny.

Have a go at shiny hair AND shiny clothes

And we don’t mean to add glitter or gloss or anything… your COLOURING must create the effect of shine.

The BEST way to do that is to blend towards your point of light and leave the ‘shine’ white or if you have to colour it, the lightest colour.

Also when creating shine think of it as a ‘reflection’ off something. Like when someone is wearing sunglasses, you see the ‘reflection’ of the light which ‘sparkles’.

Checkout this link to google images showing a bunch of sunglasses.
Study how the light reflects and creates a shine!

This is a COLOURING challenge not just a colour challenge.
Entries not following the rules will not be eligible to win prizes. If you are at all confused about whether your entry will qualify, please contact us first.
