When most people think about Valentine’s Day, they think of candlelit dinners and romantic nights. But this upcoming holiday can also be used to celebrate the other relationships we have in our lives! Here are two ways you can participate in this loving holiday with your children and family:
Love Your Friends
Why wait till February 14th
to start the celebration? The day before, have your child pick out valentine cards they would like to give to friends and classmates. Have him or her write a personal message for everyone in class (and anyone else they want to include!) and ask them to think of something they love or appreciate about each one. Not only will your child enjoy telling you about all their friends – the other kids will appreciate the thoughtful note and feel great about themselves all day!
Love Your Family
ou know how much you love your child, but do they? Valentine’s Day is a great reminder to let them know how special they are to you, and how much you care about them. You can celebrate with small gifts, a night out, or just some quality time together.
The sad truth is, the older we get the more critical we become of ourselves. Learning self-love from a young age can increase a child’s confidence and wellbeing for years to come. While your family celebrates the love you have for friends and family, don’t forget to teach your child how to love himself or herself. Here are a couple questions you can ask them to get you started:
- What do you love about yourself?
- What accomplishment are you most proud of?
- What is your greatest skill?
